Our gorgeous Boo won a dog show. He was named “Best in Show” on his holidays!
What a winner!
The first time we took Boo to Ireland, we spotted advertisements for charity dog show in Castlebar, a town near where we were staying in Co. Mayo.
It was staged at the Royal Theatre by the MSPCA charity (Mayo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). And, seeing as it was raising money for a great cause, Boo entered, for a bit of fun.
We had never entered Boo into a dog show before – but it would be the first of quite a few charity events and additional wins.
The Show classifications included: ‘Ugliest Dog’, ‘Dog Who Looks Most Like his Owner’ and even ‘Best 3-legged Dog’. Seeing as he was young, fit and healthy, Boo entered the ‘Most Handsome Male’, ‘Dog with the Waggiest Tail’ and ‘Best Dog Walking with a Handler under 12 years of age’ categories. He won two of them!
He stole the judges’ hearts.
Of course, with his happy, waggy, prancing style Boo wonthe Most Handsome Male prize.
He was highly praised for his glossy coat and beautifully clean, healthy teeth.
Actually, the judge said it was obvious that we cleaned his teeth very regularly – we weren’t quite that good yet!
As the winner of a heat, Boo pranced around in the final and most prestigious event – Best in Show. He behaved beautifully and walked proudly, constantly wagging his tail and enjoying the attention.
The winner!
Of course, he won Best in Show ! We couldn’t believe it and we enjoyed every minute of it. Our wonderful boys couldn’t stop smiling.
We were under no illusions that we could claim all the credit for Boo’s mighty Best in Show win. To be fair, it has been less than a year since with adopted him. We simply continued the good work done by his previous owners, and Retriever Rescue (or both).
Boo’s prizes were a lovely range of treats and doggie toys. They were all donations from local Co. Mayo pet suppliers. and included a free grooming session, too. But the big win for us was the huge smiles on the faces of our children for days afterwards.
As a result, Boo entered many other, fun charity dog show competitions and enjoyed every minute of them (although not as much as we have enjoyed them).
Of course, Boo is now moew suited more to ‘Most hansome elderly male’. Bless him!
